Despite a less-than-stellar real estate market, even in luxe Beverly Hills, homes are still selling and some faster than others. What moves a home — especially a million-dollar home — off the market? A competitive listing price, gorgeous properties and the added prestige of a celebrity owner, that’s what. Let’s take a look at some recent celebrity real estate transactions:
Jennifer Aniston’s home (above)
Listed for $42 million
Sold for $37-$38 millionWhen actress Jennifer Aniston quietly put up her beloved “Ohana” estate up for sale in March for $42 million, it was assumed it would take a while to find a buyer for such a pricey estate, right? Wrong. Aniston’s gorgeous Trousdale Estates home, located in the Beverly Hills real estate market, just sold for a price somewhere around $37 million to $38 million, reports the LA Times.
Aniston bought the home in November 2006 for $13.5 million — about a year after her breakup with Brad Pitt. She then hired designer, Stephen Shadley and sank two and a half years of her heart and soul into renovating the mid-century modern property, which was originally done by architect-to-the-stars Harold W. Levitt in 1970.
Heidi Klum and Seal’s home (above)
Listed for: $6.9 million
Sold for around $7 millionBeautiful couple Heidi Klum and Seal priced their home to sell. Their 6-bedroom, 9.5-bath mansion was listed on the Brentwood real estate market for $6.9 million at the end of June and a little less than a month later, it sold for a reported $7 million — slightly over asking price. Take note that the pair purchased their home for $7.6 million in 2005, purchasing it as a foreclosure in December 2010.
What’s included in Heidi and Seal’s former Beverly Glen home? A wood-paneled library, glass wine vault, private stone terrace, pool and tennis courts as well as a master suite with fireplace, dual baths and closets.
John Krasinski’s home (above)
Listed for $945,000
Sold for $880,000Best known as resident prankster Jim Halpert on “The Office,” John Krasinski didn’t have as much luck in real estate as he does pulling off gags on TV. Shortly after marrying fellow starlet Emily Blunt, Krasinski listed his home at a 10 percent discount from the $1,050,010 he bought the home for five years ago. According to the L.A. Times, the home recently sold for $880,000 — almost a $65,000 less than the original listing price. Although his home was listed on the moderately expensive West Hollywood real estate market, this area is no stranger to dropping home values. West Hollywood median home values have declined 10.5 percent year-over-year.
Krasinski’s former home is situated behind a wall of hedges and a gate. The 2-bedroom, 2-bath home features hardwood floors, French doors and a detached guest studio.
Carmelo Anthony’s home (above)
Listed for $9.5 million
Sold for $6.2 millionAfter a year languishing on the Littleton real estate market, Carmelo Anthony’s massive Colorado estate sold for a 46 percent loss at $6.2 million. The NBA star purchased the huge estate for $12 million at the height of the real estate boom in 2007. Littleton median home values have since dropped 11.5 percent year-over-year.
Although Anthony can afford this kind of loss — he was traded to the Knicks for a reported $65 million over three years — he apparently was wary to buy a new place and is renting a condo penthouse in the Big Apple.
Ashlee Simpson’s home (above)
Listed for $4 million
Sold for $3.475 millionAccording to the L.A. Times, Ashlee Simpson just unloaded the home she owned before her marriage to rocker Pete Wentz. Simpson bought the property for $4.5 million in January 2007. She first listed the home on the Beverly Hills real estate market for $4 million in 2010, dropping the price to $3.69 million in April of this year. Built in 1992, the Mediterranean-style home has 5 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms, an art studio, dance studio, media room, meditation garden and pool with spa.
Jeff Probst’s home (above)
Listed for $900,000
Sold for $900,000“Survivor” host Jeff Probst has a home befitting his Survivor-type surroundings: It is sequestered among flora and fauna high above the street, has a three-tier waterfall, spacious 8-person spa, access to hiking trails amid oak trees and California pines and has been described as having a “tree-house feeling.”
The 1918 Craftsman has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a detached office. Probst listed his home for sale after he picked up Gene Autry’s estate in Studio City for $5 million earlier this year.
