Maybe you didn't know it, but it's L.A. Arts Month -- declared thus by the city of Los Angeles. And if you are a collector -- or want to shop like one -- there's plenty to choose from in January:

Dealers from around the world exhibit vintage and contemporary photographs, as well as video and multimedia installations at the 21st annual International Los Angeles Photographic Art Exposition. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. $15 to $30. Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, 1855 Main St., Santa Monica. (310) 458-8551.

Sixteen galleries and dealers of classic photography set up shop at the Helms Daylight Studio, 3221 Hutchison Ave., Unit E, Los Angeles. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. $5.

The L.A. Art Show: Modern & Contemporary, the Los Angeles Fine Art Show: Historic and Traditional and the L.A. IFPDA Fine Print Fair runs Thursday through Jan. 22 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, West Halls A and B, 1201 S. Figueroa St., downtown Los Angeles. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Jan. 21; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 22. Opening night party, Wednesday, 7 to 10 p.m. with a VIP Patron reception beginning at 6 p.m. General admission, $20; four-day pass, $40. Premiere party tickets are $125 and $500.

At the Art Los Angeles Contemporary, more than 70 galleries from around the world sell works in all disciplines for collectors, curators and patrons. Opening night public reception, Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m. $45 at the door. Public admission one-day pass: $13 to $18; public admission three-day pass: $25 to $30 ; Jan. 20, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Jan. 21, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Jan. 22, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Barker Hangar, 3021 Airport Ave., Santa Monica Airport, Santa Monica.

Had enough yet? For those whose pockets may be more shallow, there is the Affordable Art Fair. Art is priced from $100 to $10,000, with half of the work under $5,000. Wednesday, 5 to 7:30 p.m.; benefit reception for Free Arts for Abused Children; Wed. 7:30 to 10 p.m. Private preview party; Thursday, noon to 9 p.m.; (free admission 4 to 9 p.m.). Friday, noon to 8 p.m.; Jan. 21, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Jan. 22, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. $17. Event deck at L.A. Live, Georgia Street between Chick Hearn Court and West Olympic Boulevard, downtown L.A.

It's L.A. Arts Month. Take a look, take some home. If you are an avid art collector like I am and live in the Los Angeles area, this is a great month to fuel your passion for collection. My favorite is the Los Angeles Art Show which for the second year will be held downtown at the Los Angeles Convention Center starting with the Opening Gala next Wednesday evening with proceeds going to P.S. Arts. Hope to see you there.
