U.S. President Barack Obama attended a major Hollywood fundraiser on Wednesday night at the home of my friends Bradley and Colleen Bell, who hosted the President and hundreds of Hollywood celebrities, dignitaries and industry insiders at their gorgeous Holmby Hills mansion on the famed Carolwood Drive, where stars from Gregory Peck to Marilyn Monroe, Cher and many billionaires have called home. This is also the neighborhood where Michael Jackson was renting a mansion when he died in June 2009. The President had one mission and one theme tonight. Telling supporters in no uncertain terms, his reelection will be, “a lot tougher this time around.” The home’s exterior is often seen by viewers of the most watched soap on the planet, “The Bold and the Beautiful” whenever they are featuring the exterior of Brooke Logan Forrester and Ridge Forrester’s beautiful home.
Brad Bell’s beautiful wife Colleen has worked for the President, and the family is part of the legendary Bell family dynasty; which has created the two most successful American soap operas in TV history. Brad’s parents, who were my mentors are; Bill and Lee Phillip Bell, who co-created over three decades ago “The Young and the Restless,” which has been the number-one-rated daytime TV series for the past 23 years. Brad Bell is the three-time Emmy Award winning (2009, 2010 and 2011) of the mega world popular “The Bold and the Beautiful,” a soap that Guinness Book of World Records says, is the number one watched daytime drama on the planet, being seen around the world, from the United States, throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East, as well as Australia.
While the Republican party remains in utter shambles, due to Mitt Romney’s refusal or understanding that he has to fight Gingrich and Santorum back, the President is however not out of political jeopardy as well. With Europe’s debt crisis bound to begin to affect American consumers and the U.S. economy in some manner, the President spoke to a very welcoming crowd, which included emcee (“SNL”) great actor Will Ferrell, who attended with his wife, Vivica Paulin.
Tickets for tonight’s event were priced at($38,500 per person) at Brad and Colleen’s gorgeous mansion, which is designed by George Washington Smith, and is on the cover of Jeff Hyland’s “The Legendary Estates of Beverly Hills” and in the January 2011 Architectural Digest. The house was originally built in 1926 but has been renovated immensely. Other guests at the swanky evening event were actors George Clooney, James Belushi, Jack Black and Rashida Jones.
The Los Angeles Police Department and the Beverly Hills Police and Fire Departments asked residents here on the West Side to choose alternate routes of travel. Sunset Blvd.’s traffic was snarled virtually all day in preparation for the President’s visit. Security was on the minds of all law enforcement authorities and on the mind of the U.S. Secret Service.
The president raised more than $220 million for his campaign and the Democratic National Committee in 2011 and is trying to use a protracted Republican presidential primary to build a financial buffer zone to help his cause in the November general election. Democrats have warned that outside groups supporting Republicans will pour hundreds of millions of dollars into the campaign to target President Obama.
