Beverly Hills residents and visitors come out in force to support the finest police department in the nation.
The Beverly Hills Police Officers Association's 24th annual Black and White Gala was a success this week, with supporters of the city's police department filling the ballroom at the Beverly Hilton.
"I look forward to being able to thank the community for all their support year-round," Beverly Hills Police Department Chief David Snowden told Patch. "Look at the number of people who came here because they want to honor the police department!"
Proceeds from the Nov. 5 black-tie event go towards the BHPOA's Medical Trust Fund, which provides ongoing benefits for retired officers and their families, as well as the association's scholarship fund.
When asked what it feels like to head the BHPD, Snowden said it is "the biggest honor in the world."
While speaking to attendees, Mayor William Brien shared a personal story about how the BHPD helped his daughter, who was home alone, when a prowler was spotted in his backyard. The responding officer stayed with her until police caught the suspect.
"Not only do the police keep us residents safe but millions of annual visitors—from the day shopper to the President of the United States—they're protected by the greatest police department in the United States," Brien said.
