Southern Beauty Kitchen
Though his home is new construction, the personal kitchen of designer Ty Larkins is reminiscent of staff kitchens in 1920s Southern mansions – they were generous in size, but always very simple. Countertops and island are honed Carrara marble; Rhone pendants are from Rejuvenation.Warm, Modern Kitchen
The kitchen is dominated by a luminous glass-and-steel window. "It's a great connection to the street," architect and homeowner Cary Tamarkin says. "I like to wave to people passing." Plywood cabinet doors have routed-out circles instead of knobs, a gesture inspired by "some Marcel Breuer dorm furniture." Countertops are pre-cast polished concrete, unstained – like the cypress walls – so they'll gain patina over time.European Country House Kitchen
In a town house in Serenbe, an eco-community in Geogia, a Provençal craftsman built the kitchen's handsome anchor: a weathered French oak island with open storage below. The cabinets, designed by Smith Hanes, are also French oak. Homeowner Marie Nygren chose all white appliances for warmth and homeyness, like the 60-inch Viking stove, snug in its Carrara marble niche.Seaside Kitchen
A nautical theme runs throughout this small kitchen with industrial pendant fixtures, a blue-and-white color theme, and organization that's shipshape. Keeping in mind its location on Fire Island, New York, designer Marshall Watson chose durable materials that won't rust or rot in the sea air.Metallic Kitchen
Sleek as a speedboat, this New York kitchen by designer Anik Pearson is intricately detailed with gleaming wood and maritime hardware. Cabinets are oak, washed with a transparent gray stain and finished with polyurethane satin finish to give them some sheen. For a finishing touch, the designer framed each cabinet in stainless steel. Countertops are poured concrete.Updated New York Kitchen
This kitchen is "a contemporary interpretation of a classic prewar space," says designer Garrow Kedigian. "It's pure, simple, and white." The cabinetry has a gridded detail that borrows its lines from the windows. Bamboo chairs are 18th-century Chinese. Countertops are Calacatta Gold marble.Mixologist's Kitchen
In the kitchen of a New Jersey Colonial built in the late 1800s, designer Dan Ruhland set off the bar area with an accent wall of richly colored tile. In the center of the cabinet, refrigerator drawers hold ice and sodas. Glass shelving and support brackets in Architectural bronze from Urban Archeology.Cheery California Kitchen
In this "California beachy" kitchen, designer Ruthie Sommers's own, vintage stools at the Calacatta marble island are covered in laminated Pintura Studio linen. Pops of color come from a turquoise tray, lemon dish, and vibrant paintings. The 2010 Kitchen of the Year
Showcased in New York's Rockefeller Center, the 2010 Kitchen of the Year design by Jeff Lewis was a perfect blend of contemporary design and rustic warmth. Recognizing that kitchens are no longer just for cooking but for gathering too, Lewis added a reclaimed wood dining table by Jeff Soderbergh, a swank lounge area, and an island with ample seating.Modern Kitchen on Park Avenue
The modern Euro-style kitchen design by Eric Cohler is perfect for the young family who live there: The raised cabinets make for extremely easy cleaning.
