For many home sellers, the holiday season means putting the breaks on real estate plans and waiting out the “slow season.” For celebrities, that’s not the case. The holiday season brought several rumors of A-listers out home shopping as well as more than a few celebs unloading their mega-mansions.

Rihanna sold her 8,520-square foot, three-story contemporary pad for $1.87 million less than what she bought it for in 2009. In the midst of a major lawsuit against the builder, previous owner, home inspector and real estate agents involved in the sale, however, the singer may be able to recoup some of the loss. Despite the home’s listing description as a “major fixer,” the property has plenty of potential with 8 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms and high-end amenities including a sauna and steam room, library, gourmet kitchen, enormous master suite and private home theater.

Actor Dennis Quaid first listed his equestrian estate, pictured below, on the Pacific Palisades market in March for $16.9 million. After having little success selling the place, Quaid slashed the price twice before selling the property this month for $9.5 million. The French-style equestrian estate boats 8,400-square feet of living space and has 8 bedrooms, 9.5 bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen, and formal dining room, office, wine cellar, and master suite with dual baths, private balcony and fireplace. The grounds feature a new putting green, pool and spa, horse stables, corrals and private horse riding and hiking trails.

Actress-producer Jodie Foster recently sold her Cape Cod-style house for $8.3 million, according to the L.A. Times. Foster’s gated Beverly Hills estate, located in the prestigious celebrity neighborhood just north of Sunset Boulevard, was originally listed on the real estate market with a $9.97 million price tag. Built in 1949, the vine-covered home has 5,400 square feet of living space and features 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. Situated on nearly an acre of land, the compound also includes a 2-bedroom guesthouse, a championship tennis court and a swimming pool.

The 6-bedroom, 6.5-bedroom estate includes a gourmet kitchen, 4 fireplaces, state-of-the-art security system, piano/music room, and a master suite complete with sitting area, large balcony and luxurious bathroom with spa tub, dual vanities and large, custom-built walk-in closet. The Beverly Hills Post Office-area home of the late Ed McMahon has sold in an all-cash deal for its most recent asking price of $3.475 million. The transaction may have finally ended the saga of what has been a beleaguered property history since McMahon fought to keep it from foreclosure in 2008. According to the L.A. Times, six offers came in on the property following its November listing, and the property was in escrow in 10 days, closing this past week. Best known for his role as Johnny Carson’s sidekick on “The Tonight Show,” McMahon purchased the 7,013-square foot contemporary estate in 1990 for $2.6 million and was later sold at foreclosure to a group of investors in 2010 for $3.951 million. McMahon’s home boasts 5 bedroom suites, a chef’s kitchen, library, large skylights, and master suite with dual spa baths.
