Mother's Day 2012 Gift Guide

Mother's Day 2012 Gift Guide

How do you express your love to the woman who gave you life and sacrificed for years so that you could have everything you need? Simple presents fall short in repaying her for everything she’s done. There is, however, one way to show our gratitude and love to our mothers on the one day set aside just for her. Here are a few suggestions on how to make that gift more meaningful.

To Help Her Relax

Since mothers work so hard, one of the most appreciated gifts can be something that will help her relax. For the mom who loves to read, consider a Kindle or iPad. You can even load it with books that you know she will enjoy.

If she’s the traditional paper book reader, pick up some new reads from Amazon or BarnesandNoble.com. If she doesn’t have time for a full-length book, choose one or two magazine subscriptions that she will enjoy.

If music is more your mom’s way to relax, get her an mp3 player loaded with her favorite music. You can even download movies on to the player that she can watch anywhere.

For the Professional Woman

If your mother is a busy executive, she will appreciate products that help her stay on top of her job and stay organized at home. Besides computer items, the latest mobile devices and accessories are a great idea. If you’re not sure what she needs, you can get her a gift card to her favorite electronics store. Another idea is a gift card for iTunes, or the Android Market, so she can get some helpful apps.

For the Professional Homemaker

A lot of spouses and children rebel at the idea of getting household products for their mother. It sounds like they want her to work more. However, she will appreciate a gift that makes her job easier. Get her the latest cleaning equipment or a blender that does many different things. If she has to do the job anyway, why not recognize her hard work and make it simpler, quicker, or easier.

For the mom that likes to have a good dinner on the table a few times a week, buy her a new cookbook. It will be an even better gift if you know a celebrity chef that she likes to follow, like Emeril or Rachel Ray.

Pamper Her

Splurge on a gift certificate at a day spa to give your mom a chance to be pampered like she pampers her family. A massage or manicure can be a treat that she will enjoy, but would never buy for herself. If she isn’t the type to go to a spa or salon, buy products that she can use at home. Give her an excuse to take care of herself for a change.

Mother’s Day is more about how you feel than what you buy. Choose a gift that shows you know your mom and what she does for the family, and you won’t go wrong.
