Michael Chow has been in the Beverly Hills restaurant game for the past 36 years and he certainly has a lot to offer when it comes to being involved with the Beverly Hills 90210 Celebration Event in two week’s time.
His restaurant Mr Chow, located at 344 North Camden Drive, is his flagship restaurant in the U.S. which has been duplicated in New York and Miami with a Las Vegas addition on the cards for next year.
He said he was excited to be involved with the 90210 Celebration Event on Thursday, September 2.
“We will be providing for hundreds of people two or three dishes which are quite popular,” he said.
“One of them is prawns with walnuts which is quite a popular dish that is luke warm.
“The other one is the chicken satay which is our signature dish which we created in terms of interpretation and it’s kind of unique with its sauce.”
His chefs will also perform a demonstration on the Thursday night event.
“We are going to do our pulled noodle dish demonstration which is magical and people are always fascinated by it,” he said.
“You make a dough of the noodle and then you make it behave by twirling and doing acrobatics with it, then you pull it and within two minutes it becomes noodles like magic from a piece of huge dough to very thin strands of noodles.
“It’s always an exciting thing to watch.”
Mr Chow opened his first restaurant 43 years ago in London.
He said his idea was to bridge east and west though Chinese cuisine.
“I sort of took on the job of self appointed ambassador to the west so to speak,” he said.
“I have a very truthful interpretation of the best Chinese food reinterpreted with dignity.
“The idea has always been exposing the beauty of China.”

Glazed prawns with walnuts
Ingredients:
12 extra large fresh shrimp (cleaned, skin peeled and tail out)
1 tablespoon corn starch
2 egg whites
3 tablespoons fresh mayonnaise
12-15 glazed walnuts
3/4 lemon
2 tablespoons of honey
1/4 teaspoon salt
pinch mustard powder
To prepare shrimp:
Cut the back of shrimp (to make it slightly curl when cooked) and coat with corn starch, egg whites and a pinch of salt to marinate for a few hours.
To prepare sauce:
In a bowl, mix the mayonnaise with freshly squeezed lemon, honey, salt and a pinch of mustard powder thoroughly.
Heat wok with vegetable oil (medium-hot) and deep fry shrimp (oil must be very clean to make sure shrimp doesn't come out dirty).
Deep fried shrimp must be drained to take away the excess oil.
In a bowl, toss deep fried shrimp with prepared mayonnaise sauce, coat shrimp evenly.
To serve:
Place the shrimp on a plate and add Glazed Walnuts on top.
Note: Prawns must look white and creamy. When extra large prawns are not avaiable, you can use slightly smaller prawns.
