Dear Christophechoo@aol.com,
Great news for cleaner energy! Last week the EPA revoked the permit for the country's largest mountaintop removal coal mine, a big win for clean air and clean water in Appalachian communities. Thanks to all our members who have joined with us to prod the EPA to make the right decision on mountaintop removal.
Closing filthy, dangerous and destructive coal mines is a crucial step toward greener energy in this country, though no less crucial than another step that you and I can take every day: becoming more energy-efficient at home.
This was the topic of the latest issue of our Green Americanmagazine, and I'm pleased to offer you some our most popular energy-efficiency resources, including our downloadable poster "10 Easy Ways to Cut Your Energy Use in Half." Download it for yourself and send it to everyone you know.
Green America members received these resources by mail in November. Don't miss the next issue of the Green American. Future features will cover the link between cell phones and cancer, how to find a green job, and advances in local food security.
A year-long Green American subscription is free when you join Green America and you'll also receive a copy of ourGuide to Socially Responsible Investing and our National Green Pages™, filled with great, green businesses like …Positive Energy.

Diane Merker, owner of Positive Energy, shares this and more in our newest Faces of the Green Pages interview.
So save money and the planet... please consider adding one more New Year's Resolution to your list after you check out all our resources below on energy efficiency. We're calling on all Green Americans to cut their energy use (and electricity bills!) in half in five years. It's doable – just 10% per year! and we show you how.

Take These Steps to
Cut Your Energy Use in HalfTo curb the climate crisis, increase national security, and avoid economic disaster as peak oil looms, it's time to accelerate energy efficiency.
Green America's simple, doable proposition is this: Let's each cut our energy use by 50 percent in the next five years -- just ten percent per year. Sound ambitious? The city of Juneau, AK, nearly reached that threshold in just four weeks.
When an avalanche knocked out the hydroelectric power system that provided relatively cheap energy to Juneau in 2008, energy costs skyrocketed when the city switched to a backup diesel system. Using recommendations from Berkeley Lab scientist Alan Meier (author of How to Save Energy in a Hurry) residents quickly brought their costs under control. Within a month, the entire city had cut its overall energy use by 40 percent.
You can too. Check out our recommendations of the ten easiest ways to bring your own costs under control (and check out more ideas below).
