He might be the guy who is “the music and he wrote the songs,” but he can’t sell the house.
Barry Manilow, the soft-pop crooner whose star power dominated the airwaves in the 1970s and 80s, has been trying to sell his Malibu house since 2009, which is no surprise since many people across the U.S. are caught in a slow-moving real estate market.
According to Zillow’s Price History chart, Manilow purchased the home in 1999 for $3 million. It seemed that he was quite content owning it, but 10 years later, he listed it for the first time — in May 2009 for $10,900,000. It was pulled off the market in December 2009, then re-listed in March 2010 for $9,150,000 and it has been there ever since. That is, until last November when the price dropped to an odd figure of $7,991,938.
According to the listing description, Manilow’s home is a walled and gated contemporary with a courtyard entrance. It also includes a detached guest house on “much-sought-after” Malibu Road. From looking at the bird’s-eye view of the property, it appears that Manilow’s home is not packed into the tight strip of star-studded celebrity homes and is sited on a promontory, which offers privacy and excellent views to the east and west along the beach. The home features a sunken living room with floor-to-ceiling glass, vaulted ceilings, and limestone floors. The main home includes a “dramatic master suite,” plus three additional guest bedrooms. Across the courtyard is a private guest house.
