LA's best private party rooms, from Downtown to the beach From the tiny to the cavernous, no matter what the size of your holiday party, LA has the space. Hollywood: Cleo
Housed inside The Redbury hotel, this is the place to watch celebrities smashing plates, but not in the Charlie Sheen way — it's allowed as part of the experience. Fresh and light Mediterranean-style specialites and appetizer-like "mezzes" in the library room are the way to go for a cocktail party, pre-big night out.
1717 Vine St. (323-962-1711). Capacity: 150 Melrose: Cube
This consistently underrated Italian cafe and market confuses some with its ever-shifting menu, but that's why we love it. They'll use monthly finds (like mole pepperoni created by Mario Batali's dad and grappa-soaked cheese) to create exotic six- or eight-course tasting menus for a dozen and a half guests for only $60 or $75 per person, respectively.
615 N. La Brea Ave. (323-939-1148). Capacity: 18 West Hollywood: Sunset Marquis
Recently renovated, the legendary rock n' roll hotel has plenty of hidden outdoor alcoves to slink away to after inhaling your kurobata pork or seared rare tuna steak. Recreate Green Day's legendary night of tossing furniture into the pool by feeding your leftovers to the inhabitants of the koi pond.
1200 Alta Loma Rd. (310-657-1333). Capacity: 250 Culver City: Gyenari
Get everyone loosened up by grilling Korean BBQ yourself on smokeless grills in the pair of private party rooms. There's no extra booking fee, and they'll hook up a pre-set menu to make ordering simple. And you can even show Powerpoint presentations on the flatscreens, if you must.
9540 Washington Blvd. (310-838-3131). Capacity: 40 Sherman Oaks: Boneyard Bistro
Ventura gastropub offers a hundred beers to pair with sports-bar-on-steroids drinking food. The Kobe beef chili cheese donuts are our favorite, naturally, but the pastrami sandwich spring rolls are worthy challengers.
13539 Ventura Blvd. (818-906-7427). Capacity: 90 Pacific Palisades: Gladstone's
Now that it's been reclaimed by the SBE nightclub, the sawdust-covered floors and plates of fried crustaceans are gone, but the classic coastline view remains the same. Still the best place for a sunset meal, even in December.
17300 Pacific Coast Hwy. (310-454-3474). Capacity: 1500 Downtown: Takami
Sushi in the sky for big spenders. Wraparound patios offer stellar views from downtown to the hills, and combined with the Japanese fusion menu (and sake selection) will literally floor your guests. Afterward, take over the neighboring dance club, Elevate, and crunk over your victory against Komrade Obama's tax policies.
811 Wilshire Blvd., 21st floor (213-236-9600). Capacity: 400
