Pummeled by the steep devaluation of their real estate investments, Shelter Pop finds the biggest celebrity real estate losers of 2010:
- Actor Nicolas Cage tops the charts at No. 1: The notorious property collector has built his own real estate coffin with an estimated loss of more than $10 million, and more than a dozen homes around the world selling for much less than he paid. One of the homes includes his legendary and primary residence in Bel-Air formerly owned by Dean Martin and Tom Jones that was seized. He currently has a home still on the market on REALTOR.com®.
- Actress Scarlett Johansson is also in the running with her recent failed marriage to Ryan Reynolds, and a $3 million loss on a very A-list property (pictured here), which was valued at $7 million this past June.
Other celeb real estate losers:
- Singer Latoya Jackson is on the verge of the celebrity foreclosure list, as a Las Vegas condo she purchased in 1996 for about $260,000 was reportedly in default with an unpaid balance of $750,000 in 2009.
- Singer John Mayer: still on the market on Realtor.com.
- Actor Adam Brody : still on the market on Realtor.com.
- Singer Kelly Clarkson: still on the market on Realtor.com.
- Multi-Grammy winning musician Beck
- Actor Damon Dash
- Actor Chris Tucker : faces tax problems just like his counterpart Cage and actor Wesley Snipes, and is facing jail time over it. Tucker listed his home in the summer of 2010 in short sale.
- Singer Sheryl Crow: Bidding closed, but the auction ended without the reserve price being met, therefore she still owns it.
Celeb on the verge of foreclosure for 2011:
- Singer Jermaine Jackson: his house, according to TMZ, is going up for auction: Factors: 60 days to vacate. Victim of a “smooth criminal” as he claims he was robbed out of $150,000. Behind on child support.
- “West Wing” star Timothy Busfield faces foreclosure with reports that his financial stress stems from his pricy divorce in 2007–a contributing factor to him defaulting on his $1.25 million Malibu home mortgage.
- Actor Mel Gibson’s house in Malibu may be doomed to foreclosure in the midst of domestic violence accusations against his baby’s mother Oksana Grigorieva. Reports say he failed to settle a $12,000 bill with contractors.
- One of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” Teresa Giudice, and her husband are desperate for relief, as they reportedly owe an astounding $11 million in debts on their mansion.
- Musician Wyclef Jean reportedly owes more than $2.1 million to the IRS and faces tax trouble.
