From Hotel Chatter: Why You Should Stay at The Hotel Bel-Air on Opening Night

The Hotel Bel-Air, which closed two years ago for a massive renovation, will be reopening on October 14.If you're one of the longtime fans of the hotel (and there are many) who can't wait to sleep inside the new rooms, then you probably already booked your reservation when they went online inJune. But now there's another incentive for staying at the Hotel Bel-Air on opening night and that'sexclusive access to Wolfgang Puck's new restaurant, The Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel-Air as well as the new bar and lobby lounge.These spaces will open to the public on November 1st but hotel guests will be among the first to try them out for two weeks. Yay! We love special guest perks!Room rates start at $565 a night but the hotel's preview rate includes a $100 dining credit which you should certainly use for a meal at Wolfgang Puck's. The hotel also has a "Suite Experience" package on offer which includes breakfast for two, a $200 dining credit, a $100 spa credit for the La Prairie spa. Food and Wine Magazine knows when it's onto a good thing. Building on the success of the long running and incredibly popular Aspen Food and Wine Classic, the magazine (actually it's publisher, American Express) has branched out to bring a similar, if somewhat abbreviated version to South Beach in Florida, and has become a major sponsor of the Pebble Beach Food and Wine event in Carmel, California.
Last year, American Express Publishing dipped its toe into the waters of Los Angeles, with the four-day extravaganza called Beverly Hills, which was apparently quite the scene. But if that was a toe dipping, this year they've undertaken a full-on occupation.
Enter the first annual Los Angeles Food and Wine festival: four days of Dionysian delights spread across Los Angeles like a big puff pastry filled with foie gras.
The festival packs scores of events into four days across Beverly Hills, Downtown, Santa Monica, and Hollywood. The events range from wine tasting seminars, to cooking demonstrations, to panel discussions, to music and mixology parties, to the grand tasting tent filled with food and wine and booze for the sampling.
If the Aspen Food and Wine festival represents the heights of luxury, this festival aims for the cutting edge of coolness, integrating much more music and culture into a more urban environment.
The main attraction for many, especially those overwhelmed with the choices, might be the grand tasting event: 200 wineries, 30 celebrity chefs, book signings, and more at the JW Mariott in downtown LA.
