Los Angeles Celebrates Fashion’s Night Out This Thursday
September 6, 2011 8:00 AM
Kick off your weekend a little bit early and with a lot of style – Thursday, September 8 is Fashion’s Night Out!
Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) was launched in 2009 as a joint project of American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company, and the City of New York. The event’s goals are celebrating fashion, boosting the industry’s economy, and restoring consumer confidence by making shopping fun, and it’s timed to coincide with the start of New York Fashion Week. FNO came to Los Angeles for the first time in 2010, and the 2011 celebration is going global: events are planned in hundreds of cities in 18 countries.Participating retailers range from local specialty shops to nationally-known stores to designer boutiques. They will extend their hours on Thursday night and offer special promotions such as exclusive sales, product and service giveaways including personal styling and makeovers, and refreshments and entertainment for shoppers. In addition, some participants will be donating a portion of the night’s sales to selected charities. You’re likely to find some FNO specials at your local mall, but some major shopping destinations are going all out for Fashion’s Night Out.
The Beverly Center is the site of Los Angeles’ official FNO festivities, featuring a red carpet for celebrity arrivals and an opening ceremony at 5:00 PM, hosted by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Live fashion shows will take place at 5:30 (luxury) and 8:00 (contemporary and juniors), and a DJ will provide music all evening long. Individual stores will offer a variety of discounts, gifts, and treats for shoppers.
