Elizabeth Taylor's final Bel Air estate on market for $8.6 million

The Bel Air estate where actress Elizabeth Taylor spent the last 30 years of her life recently went on the market for $8.6 million.
The 7,000-square-foot home has six bedrooms and six bathrooms. The master bedroom on the second floor has walls upholstered in her signature violet, and has treetop views over the city.
Taylor, a film icon known for her roles in “Cleopatra” and “A Place in the Sun,” died in March at age 79 of congestive heart failure.
In a statement, her son Christopher Wilding called the home a “focal point for the family” where they would gather for Thanksgiving and Easter.
“She never entertained the notion of moving,” Wilding said.

Features on the main floor of the house include a large living room with a wood-beamed ceiling and wood-burning fireplace, as well as an additional master suite, galley-style kitchen and maid quarters.Built in the 1960s, the ranch-style house sits on 1.27 acres and was previously owned by Nancy Sinatra Sr., Frank Sinatra’s first wife. It’s at the end of a long driveway behind a gated entrance, and is surrounded by foliage.
Outside the house, the landscaping varies from an English garden and lawn to a koi pond with a waterfall and a “jungle” of bamboo and palms. A pool and spa are surrounded by iridescent mosaic tiles.

“She loved the eagle’s nest quality of her bedroom surrounded by nature and the contrast of the wildness with the English flowers,” Christopher Wilding said. “And she was very hands-on with the gardening—she wanted color in the garden year-round.”
