Elton John and David Furnish’s Colorful Beverly Hills Pad.

Looking at photos of Elton John and husband David Furnish’s pristine Los Angeles home, it’s hard to imagine the 5,000-square-foot structure also houses a toddler and a newborn. But, the guys insist, their abode is indeed kid-friendly.

“The one-story thing is so great for Zachary,” John tells Architectural Digest of the couple’s 2-year-old son (the men did the interview prior to welcoming second son Elijah in January). “He just charges through the house like a little firecracker!”

Most Influential Houses of the Last Century

“Certainly there was a family slant in the art we chose,” Furnish says of decorating the house, built in 1966. “We focused on things that are colorful and positive and celebrations of life.”

There’s also the wild digital print by Jeremy Blake in the living room (see pic), a room that contains plenty of vibrant colors, prints, and textures, like the pink-lacquer cocktail table by Lawson-Fenning, black-and-white animal-print carpet, and club chairs upholstered with Mongolian-lamb fabric.

Their bedroom, with dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows, is pretty eclectic too, thanks to an alpaca carpet second-century Roman torso sculpture, a bed upholstered in ostrich leather, and a silver ceiling that reflects both the outdoors and the walls dotted with Mapplethorpe photographs.

And outside is what you’d expect to see at any multi-million-dollar Beverly Hills pad: a gleaming pool and killer views.

“It’s quintessential L.A.,” Furnish says. “I remember walking to the front door and saying, ‘It’s perfect.’”

Well, almost perfect. Since purchasing the pad, Furnish and John have added a swing set to the front yard. We’re sure Daniel and Elijah will appreciate it even more than the art.

The March issue of Architectural Digest hits newsstands on February 12 and is currently available in in the Apple app store.
