You know you’ve made it big when you can buy a house on a hill.
Phil McGraw, more commonly known as TV therapist Dr. Phil, and his wife Robin McGraw, first put their Mediterranean villa on the market last July when they traded up and according to the LA Times, bought a “a hillside view home that they’ve been admiring for years.”
First listed last summer for $16.5 million, Dr. Phil’s Beverly Hills home is still on the market and has dropped $2.6 million in price to $13.8 million. The 7-bedroom, 8-bathroom house has many amenities to keep the typical TV therapist comfortable, including an in-home theater, gym, billiards room and master suite with his-and-hers bathrooms.
The 11,036-sq ft house sits on nearly three-quarters of an acre in one of the most celebrity-studded ZIP codes among Beverly Hills real estate. Although Dr. Phil’s pal Oprah isn’t a neighbor, the tiny town has been the ZIP code for the rich and famous for years.
The gated (and flat lot) home is perfect for guests; visitors have their own detached two-bedroom “casita” and access to the estate’s garden courtyard and outdoor dining room. The walled and gated estate offers “the ultimate in privacy” but perhaps that’s what drove the McGraws to find higher land and a better view than four walls. They didn’t abandon their taste in Mediterranean design, however. According to The Wall Street Journal, the estate they purchased for $29.5 million is a “Mediterranean-style villa on three acres” with “sweeping views of of Century City.”
