It's your last week to head up to Santa Barbara to listen to some talented young musicians at the 2011 Music Academy of the West festival. The final performance is next Saturday at 8 PM at the Granada Theatre conducted by Leonard Slatkin. The program includes Tchaikovsky's Francesca Da Rimini and Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring. Tickets are still available.
Southwest Chamber Music's Summer Festival at the Huntington continues today with some chamber works from Mozart, and the Beverly Hills International Music Festival runs the entire week with daily performances at 8 PM at Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills. If you have any Korean or Italian friends, take them out and celebrate the unification of their respective countries with performances at the Norton Simon Museum and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The commemoration of the unification of Italy takes place this Friday at 8 PM at the Norton Simon museum with performances of Verdi, Puccini, and Mozart. Tickets are free with museum admission. The Korean unification celebration takes place this Saturday at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Los Angeles Symphony.
